algeria2Algerian media on Wednesday announced the resignation of Christian Gourcuff from his post as coach national men’s football team.

According to local press, the French coach would throw in the towel following his team’s three-all draw with Ethiopia, as part of the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations 2017.

The information was immediately relayed by some international media.

“Christian Gourcuff told his players on the plane back from Ethiopia, his intention to quit. If he has not yet formally resigned, it is no longer in doubt.” said on the website of the French TV BFM TV.

Christian Gourcuff told his players on the plane back from Ethiopia, his intention to quit.
For now, neither the the coach nor the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has made any statement on the matter.

After three wins and a draw, Algeria are top of their qualifying group for the 2017 African Cup of Nations, needing just one win from their remaining games against Seychelles away on June 3 and Lesotho at home on September 2 to guarantee qualification.

Christian Gourcuff joined the Algerian national team in August 2014 after the Brazil World Cup. He led the national team to CAN 2015 in Equatorial Guinea, where he reached the quarterfinals, only to be eliminated by the Ivory Coast.
